Laichi Cup Sake

Laichi Cup Sake

ONE CUP
The idea came when we were thinking about what these cups are good for. The lid can partially fold open to be able to sip without pouring it to a glass, but it can also be removed to be open-top. We felt that umeshu (plum wine with plum fruit inside) utilized this cup well, but we didn’t want to make umeshu.

LYCHEE
Lychee is a fruit that, if you were an Asian (or not) growing up in LA, you’ve been obsessed with it at least once in your life. It seemed to blow up in popularity in 2000s and now we see drinks like Lychee Martinis being very popular at bars and restaurants. The tropical aroma now triggers nostalgia.

SAKE
We didn’t want this to be simply sake with added flavoring. We R&D’d to brew sake that goes well with the taste of lychee and we actually put a lychee fruit in the cup like umeshu for the sake to extract flavor and aroma from the fruit. No other sugar/flavoring/syrup was added. Just rice, koji, water and whole lychee fruit. Yes you can eat the fruit at the end ofcourse. We brewed the sake to have a tropical fruit flavor profile and balanced just right to be not too dry and not too sweet when consumed with the fruit. This is not a sweet dessert sake.

PORTABILITY
One cup sakes are good for taking it to the beach, picnic, camping, day trips and etc., so take it with you wherever you might need it.
